Basic Firefighting Knots : Firefighting Knots: Clove Hitch

What we are going to demonstrate and talk
about is how to form a clove hitch quickly that can be applied over the open end of any
object. Now the object that it’s going to be applied on has to have a free or open end
or this technique or method can not be used. To form the clove hitch we basically place
the rope across on palm, palm up through the other hand palm down. We naturally roll our
hand the way they would naturally go where the rope would cross in front on one end and
in back on the other. We then cross the rope to from what looks like a pretzel and we have
our clove hitch. Our clove hitch can be placed over the end of any object and then pulled
tight and applied to the end of that object. This is a technique I would recommend all
fire fighters learn. Palm up, palm down technique of forming the clove hitch quickly placed
over the end of a substantial object. The clove hitch.
