How To Tie The Kelvin Knot – Tie Tying Tutorial #5

Grab your best necktie, because we’re about
to learn how to tie the Kelvin knot. Go ahead and flip the collar of your dress shirt up
and loop the tie around your neck. At this point you’re going to want to make sure that
the seems of the tie are facing away from you. Once you’ve ensured that the seems are
facing outward, go ahead and make sure that there’s about twice as much of the wide end
hanging down as the narrow end. After you’ve double checked that take the narrow end in
front of the wide end, and then bring the wide end over in front. Then you’re going
to want this first loop to be pretty tight, so grab the tie over here, go around back,
so you’ve created one full loop around the narrow end. And this time you’ll notice I’m
holding kind of the beginning of the knot with these two fingers. Take the wide end
over your fingers and then I reach around back and bring the tip of the tie up through
the loop created by my neck, and then down through the loop that I was holding with my
two fingers. Now as you pull the tie tight, it has a tendency to kind of twist on you.
Just make sure, as you’re pulling it tight, that it doesn’t bunch up or do anything funny.
Another tip is to take your pointer finger, push it up into the middle of the tie and
give it a little snug. This is going to give you a nice perfect dimple. After you’ve done
that, go ahead and just kind of pull outward at the top of the knot. This is going to give
you a nice triangular looking knot. Now you can slide that knot all the way up to your
top button, just like that. Now, you’ve basically have tied the Kelvin knot. All you have left
to do is to flip the collar of your dress shirt back down. Make sure that the tie isn’t
hanging out anywhere and give yourself the once over. Make sure the knot is centered
and you are all set. I hope you found this tutorial helpful and if you did give me a
